I have a confession to make:
I struggle with procrastination.
I have a hard time taking off when the starting pistol fires.
To those of you who have been part of my newsletter, this is no surprise. I have published it sporadically at best. My latest reason (excuse) was:
I was trying to figure out how to do an HTML version.
Pretty lame, huh?
How about I actually write the thing first, then worry about sending it in a different manner???
Oh, I’ve got all kinds of variations of how I can beat up myself. My demons are pros at it.
But, after reading Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose, I have learned a lot about the futility of beating myself up over what I did or didn’t do in the past.
Though I don’t agree with everything Tolle says in the book, there is enough useful information to make it well worth the time to read. I’ve found myself a LOT more peaceful since I read it.
My daughter even noticed the difference in my driving. She commented that when people cut me off that it’s funny how my reaction differs from that of her dad.
She said he yells and gets aggressive and she laughed when I made a reference to what Wayne Dyer said about “the little old lady driving 20 mph in front of you who just may have been put there to teach you to slow down and relax.”
I’ve learned that we have many unexpected teachers in our lives.
We just need to open our eyes to them.
For a while now, I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on about self-help, spirituality and the like… I’ve become like the overflowing cup that I keep pouring into even though it’s pouring all over the floor!
It’s time to take some action.
My new friend, Brandi, and I have been talking and hopefully we will be able to collaborate on something soon. I have asked her to guest post and co-write in my newsletter. I’ll introduce you to her writing soon. She’s awesome and I’m looking forward to working together!
Back to the procrastination…
I’ve got TONS of knowledge from researching and reading for years but I have held back from acting on many ideas. I’ve purchased domain names and they’ve expired without seeing the light of day.
It’s amusing actually, how well-versed I am in the fine art of procrastination! Perfectionism is not pretty, I tell ya.
I’m learning to let go… and just BE. And you know what? The more I let go, the more I actually accomplish.
It’s great to feel like it’s ok to put out a crappy blog post or article. The point is just doing it!
So, I’m challenging myself and all of you to just do the thing you’ve been putting off for so long. Forget waiting for the perfect time. The perfect time is NOW.
So, my HTML newsletter will wait another month. So what? I will be happy with the text version and just get on with it. I don’t think my readers will condemn me for lack of graphics. My excuse doesn’t hold water and guess what? Neither does yours…
So why don’t you join me in conquering your own procrastination demons and commit to what you’ve put off?
Let’s kick procrastination’s BUTT!

1Hey there Angie,
I know the procrastination feeling. Or is it a habit? Or is it a blessing or a curse? For me, I admit I have done a lot of stuff over the past year or so, but most of it was just doing stuff, not accomplishing stuff.
Looking at my recent blog postings, not counting the one today or yesterday, it’s been about a month between them. I have kept thinking I really should get moving on writing more, posting more and all of that. It’s not that it’s that difficult to do or takes too much time. It’s just sitting one’s butt in the chair and doing it. (well, that and having something to post about).
So that is my spring cleaning sort of thing to work on doing. And this far, 2 days in a row, not too bad if I do say so myself. (and that doesn’t include today’s post on the myspace page. Yippie!!!!!
So anyone out there reading this, let’s follow Angie’s advice and kick procrastination where it hurts.
