Motivational Musings…Finding Extraordinary in the Ordinary
| ![]() |
Ever since I first started writing, I knew there was something there. Something I should be doing with my writing.
But what?
I knew that I found things that motivated me quite interesting. It was also great when I got feedback that something I wrote made a difference to someone.
So, I did the most obvious thing I could – start a motivational site.
That was when I first rolled out Motivational Stuff.
If you haven’t been with me since the beginning, I came up with the name from the countless motivational sticky notes and plaques I had sitting around my computer back then.
The name stuck.
The problem… The idea was good, but I didn’t have my heart in it any longer. My wonderful webmaster/designer, K.C., (did I mention she’s awesome???) did a great job with the site.
I got a lot of traffic.
The name was good and it got the hits.
The problem was that I felt compelled to write, not just share “motivational stuff” after a while.
And this blog was born…
I wrote and wrote, then took time off when I didn’t feel like it.
My writing evolved over the years, as did my direction.
I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with my sites (I have a ton of domain names I have yet to do anything with) and just knew that I had so many ideas and nothing seemed quite right.
I have been just writing whatever comes to me that day and for the most part, I get some pretty good feedback.
But recently I wrote about something that must have struck a chord with a lot of people because the feedback was overwhelming.
I don’t always get comments on the posts, but I tend to get quite a few emails.
This particular topic was close to my heart and I guess that may be part of why so many people liked what I wrote.
I decided in the new year to create something in that area to share what I’ve learned and help others. I’ll post more when I have the details.
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
- Melody Beattie
But, the interesting thing is that it was shortly after I wrote about just accepting what is, struggle and growth, I ended up gaining total clarity for my business for the new year.
And what a blessing that is.
Sometimes when you ask for the answers, you just need to clear yourself of the weight of the past and the answers become crystal clear…
Amazing how that happens!
In the new year, you’ll see so many different things from me, and I’m just doing what I feel like doing. And the funny thing about it is this: The more I tried to figure out what people wanted, the less the response, but when I just opened up and was myself, I have more interested readers than I ever thought I’d have!
So, the one thing I learned through all of this is to just be genuine and everything works its way out.
Insight… It’s a wonderful thing!
