Motivational Musings…Finding Extraordinary in the Ordinary
| ![]() |

Last night on my way home, I got run off the road by a woman texting who almost sideswiped me. She was oblivious to what she was doing. I guess the thought since she had her phone up by the steering wheel it was fine.
It was until she didn’t negotiate a turn and ended up in my lane and I had to swerve to keep from having her in my driver’s door. Thank goodness I’m a good driver or I would have been toast. We were going about 70 mph.
Is that text message that important?
Is it worth your life?
The lives of others?
Drinking and driving is a well known hazard and you always hear, “Don’t drink and drive.” The awareness is there.
But think about texting and driving. You’re doing 70 mph and NOT LOOKING AT THE ROAD! C’mon now! How crazy is that?
I will admit, I’m as guilty as the next person and I have done it. But I never really thought about the consequences. I just knew I wasn’t good at it, so I just didn’t do it because I felt it was dangerous for me to do it.
A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine sent me an email about not texting and driving that showed a little one who was the victim of someone texting that plowed into their SUV.
I felt I did my part at the time and forwarded it to everyone I knew. I found a link to it on snopes : www.snopes.com/photos/accident/intexticated.asp
Then, I was almost a victim of someone who felt that message was more important than her attention to driving.
That changed everything.
I just want to help bring awareness to this issue. I’m glad I have that ability. The personal experience is the motivator.
So, the next time you’re driving and you hear your phone alert you of a text message and you’re tempted to read and answer it just this one time…
Please think again.
