Okay, I confess... I'm a repeat offender. I sometimes keep repeating the same mistakes and miss the lesson. I guess the important thing is that I recognize it. merry go round Sometimes in life, I just go round and round (and round and round,) never realizing I should be going from point A to point B instead. My mom used to call it "the hard way" ("Why do you ALWAYS do EVERYTHING the hard way?") Hmmmmmmm, I guess subconsciously I'm obeying Mom, eh??? But guess what? Mom's not always right... Words spoken in frustration can stick with the person on the receiving end and be programmed into their subconscious. I know for years, that happened to me. I still backslide from time to time. Especially in money matters... It's as if someone gets a whiff of my insecurity and WHAMMO! Another financial crisis ensues. Guess what? I end up right back on that merry go round again. Making the Shift Finally waking up to the obvious pattern is a must. It's amazing how it can be obvious to everyone around you (or not) and still you don't see it. Especially when it's become a pattern. Stepping back and viewing your life with a new set of eyes (not clouded by your personal emotion/pain) is the first step. Recognizing there is a problem is paramount to making the shift. Once you've pinpointed the problem, it's best to figure out why it exists. In the example above, I've been fighting my unconscious urge to do what my mom said I always do. If Mom says it... it must be true! (not really) I know how many times I've spoken out of frustration so I don't blame Mom a bit. She did the best she could at the time. Ultimately, it's MY responsibility to take the messages/lessons I learned as a child and see what was really true. I've been relatively successful what that through EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique.) If you're not familiar with that technique and want more information, just ask. The most effective EFT I've used is demonstrated by Robert Smith. This video explains a little about his way of doing it and why it works: He has tons of useful videos and the link above takes you to his site where he sells specific products if you have an interest. I have yet to buy any of them since his YouTube videos have such great content. Learning to do things a different way can sometimes be challenging. Ok, so it's challenging all of the time. But it can be worth it when you reap the rewards of your new way of doing things. To me, it seems like the key is finding out why you tend to do whatever it is you're doing in the first place! Then you can do something about it. If you continue to do what you've been doing, you'll continue to get what you're getting. It's as simple as that. The idea is to figure out what's the issue, then do something about it. The action will be different for everyone. Do what feels right for you. The point is to figure out the best action to fix the issue and bring a little peace into your life. The alternative? Keep getting what you're getting and complain about it! No thank you. I choose to do something to change. I've been with the pity party brigade and have found it's not for me. I hope it's not for you either. Learning the lessons in life that need to be learned isn't always easy. Frankly, if they need to be learned, there's a reason they're so difficult. If they were easy, you would hardly remember them. Diamonds don't become diamonds until they're put under tremendous pressure. There's a reason we need to learn the hard lessons... To become the diamond we all can be.
