Tonight my daughter is getting pink hair. Well, not
ALL pink. She likes that look of the underneath of the hair being another color and of course, she chose pink! It's just a temporary color (thank God!)
It's a fine line between stifling your teen's individualism and letting them do anything they want. I've always been the type of mom that wants my kids to express themselves (unless body piercing or tattoos are involved!)
Raising kids in today's world is not an easy task! Sheesh! Throw in divorced households with differing views and boy, does that create turmoil!
- Where did my little girl go?
- The one with the pigtails?
- How did this woman's body end up with my little girl's face on it?
- Where did the time go?
She starts high school this year. Wow... My baby in high school. My son just turned twenty-one this month as well. When did I become middle-aged?
Through the divorce, struggle and now another marriage, it seems my kids' childhood slipped through. Stress does that to you if you don't get a handle on it.
I'm just like everyone else. Learning as I go. Making mistakes. Doing other things right. I have learned to actually learn from some of my mistakes.
What a concept!
So, tonight I watch my formerly pigtailed little girl become my pink-haired teen.
You can send the sympathy cards any time you'd like. Preferably with money! (just kidding!)
Seriously...
Enjoy every moment. Actually LIVE in the moment. Because yesterday just doesn't have the sweetness of today.
And
THAT my dear ones, is the lesson I learned.
