Image from WikipediaI was one of the lucky citizens chosen for the privilege (at least that's what the video they showed said) to perform my civil duty and be included in the jury pool for the City of St. Louis. First off, let me explain something. I grew up in a small town about 30 miles south of here and didn't move up this way until I got married last year. I hardly drove up here, and it was total foreign territory to me. My first inclination when I received the summons was to run and hide. After careful reexamination, I decided that jail time was not something to cherish, so I thought better of it. Next, I felt the "oh, it's not fair" feeling because I've only lived here a year. The good ole "why me" syndrome that tends to get a death hold on you once you let it in. I quickly decided that the low-energy vibration that puts out would definitely not bring me anything positive so I moved past this one like greased lightning. Then I started getting on the right track...

I started thinking along the lines of:

It was an honor just to be nominated... (ok, so that's as close as I'll ever get to saying THAT speech...)

What could I get out of this situation?

How interesting would this really be?

How would this enrich my life? (besides blog material...hehehe)

What new and interesting people would I meet?

How much more comfortable would I be with the city after a couple of days of this?

I'm getting paid from my work for being here, so what's the big deal?

I'll get to catch up on some of my reading

It's amazing how when you dwell on something as negative, you can find every reason in the world that it IS negative. However, when you change the way you look at it, there is always an equally positive side. Most people just never open themselves up enough to see it. (GUILTY!!!)

You gotta love Wayne Dyer... The man changed my life. His profound wisdom is simply amazing. You may notice a little something different in some of my posts. I'm trying out a new plugin called Zemanta. It's pretty cool. It offers the suggestions and links while you're posting. It's pretty impressive. So, jury duty really did have a silver lining. Now if it could just help my procrastination................
