Admit it.
There have been times
you've gotten in your own way. I think we all have at some point in our lives.
Unfortunately, I was the master at it!
It's something I personally struggled with my entire life.
You know how you hear something so much that you tend to internalize it and it becomes truth for you? Well, I heard for years that I "always do things the hard way."
Of course they were right. I
did do things the hard way.
At the time, I didn't feel as if I was doing anything the hard way. I just felt powerless over my circumstances.
In hindsight, powerlessness = ignorance.
- Ignorance of the fact that I had power over my own life and I was creating my own reality.
- Ignorance of the fact that we become what we think about all day (and at that time, my thoughts were of lack and how unfair the world was.) No wonder I was living the hard life!
- Ignorance of the cold hard fact that I didn't have to live as a victim. It had become such a familiar way of living, that it was not an easy cycle to break.
But, fear not - Victimitis is definitely a curable disease!
It was that fateful day when I was unemployed, hadn't a clue what direction my life was headed and the days of cable tv were gone that I found myself flipping through the local channels I still had, that I ran across Wayne Dyer's
The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way
PBS special.
It was as if it was put there for me! (I was ready and the teacher appeared!)
I'll go into more detail at another time, as that moment truly changed my life.
For now, I'll just mention how in that moment, I made a decision to change. And change I did. I learned how the victim mentality can be like a disease... It eats away at you, bit by bit.
The funny thing about it is that the person living it mostly doesn't have a clue that he or she is thinking that way.
I know I sure didn't!
The more I learned about Universal Laws, the more empowered I became. It was like a light was turned on and I was no longer living in the dark, fumbling to find my way around.
Everything became clearer when I became clearer.

It was if the light was finally shining through and illuminating what I already knew deep down. It was a clarification, of sorts.
The movie,
The Secret brought The Law of Attraction out into the mainstream, but it's predecessor,
What the Bleep Do We Know!?
was already informing us about the wonders of quantum physics. The Secret just brought it out into the mainstream in such a tremendous way that more people found an interest in The Law of Attraction.
I've been studying The Law of Attraction for quite some time and it's absolutely astounding how many more resources are available in the past year or so.
I've learned that thoughts become things (
Mike Dooley always reminds us) and I found this great poem in the 1984 version of Bob Proctor's
You were born rich: Now you can discover and develop those riches
:
Thoughts Are Things
I hold it true that thoughts are things;
They're endowed with bodies and breath and wings:
And that we send them forth to fill
The world with good results, or ill.
That which we call our secret thought
Speeds forth to earth's remotest spot,
Leaving its blessings or its woes
Like tracks behind it as it goes.
We build our future, thought by thought,
For good or ill, yet know it not.
Yet so the universe was wrought
Though is another name for fate;
Choose then thy destiny and wait,
For love brings love and hate brings hate.
- Henry Van Dyke
It's so true that our thoughts determine what direction our life will go. Just think of the bad day when you get out of bed and dread what's going on that day.
Doesn't everything happen just how you negatively imagined it or worse? Dread is such a useless thing.
How about, just for today, you think about what you DO want, instead of what you don't want and see how much better your day goes.
Join me in doing it Just For Today and then we can revisit it tomorrow... I'll bet you'll find yourself wanting to do it for just another day...
