Motivational Musings…Finding Extraordinary in the Ordinary

Thanksgiving…
Let’s break down this word, shall we?
Thanks
To express gratitude, appreciation or acknowledgment to.
Giving
To present voluntarily, and without expecting compensation.
Year after year we look forward to the day we get to eat to our heart’s content and not have to feel guilty about it. We enjoy a variety of foods from turkey to the ever-popular pumpkin pie.
Of course we say grace before the meal, but how often does the average person really practice gratitude for all of the good in his/her life? It’s so easy to get caught up in the daily grind that somehow the feeling of being truly thankful just goes by the wayside.
It’s not you or me, it’s all of us… It’s something I have learned to adjust over the past couple of years. I’m so glad I did! It only takes a moment and the feeling you get afterward it worth the time.
Sit back and think about how truly blessed you really are.
No matter what situation you are in now, consider this:
Somewhere, someone would kill to be where you are right now.
I know you say, “Yeah, right” but hear me out.
Let’s say you are behind in your bills. (big stretch, eh?) Think about all of the wonderful things you have that gave you those bills.
If you are behind on your car payment, you have a car to drive.
If your wife/husband left you, they’re no longer your problem and better things await you.
If you’re behind on your house payment, you have a roof over your head.
If your kids are driving you up a wall, you have kids to love.
Etc….
Make me a promise: Until the end of the year, you will do this one thing.
Replace “I have to” with “I get to.”
Notice the difference it starts to make in your life. When you go from the mentality of, “I have to go to work” to “I get to go to work” it will make a tremendous change in your attitude. And who couldn’t use an attitude booster?
I’m writing all about gratitude and how it can change your life in my soon-to-be-released eBook, “Get Your Gratitude On!” (available soon at: www.motivationalstuff.com)
So, keep in mind that you can either be thankful for what you have in your life and reap the benefits or keep thinking about what you don’t have and keep getting the same… The choice is yours.
What will you choose today?
